Educational Outreach
TRAINING COURSES 2009

The Educational Outreach is a multi-disciplinary team which works within an inclusive model of service provision for mainstream school aged children with an autism spectrum disorder.

Parents and carers, teachers, special support personnel and other professionals will all benefit from attending the EO courses which offer practical, evidence-based interventions and opportunities for problem-solving and discussion. Courses are presented by members of the EO and BIS teams.

Introduction to ASD and Mainstream School Strategies
Learn about and receive:

Comprehensive overview of ASD

Positive and systematic behaviour support explained

Numerous 'user-friendly' learning, social and sensory-motor strategies for classrooms and playgrounds.

Full handouts and Certificates of Participation

Buffet lunch and morning/afternoon tea

Cost: $198 incl GST

Asperger's Disorder and Adolescence
Learn about and receive:

The normal development issues of adolescence

Specific challenges of adolescence faced by young people with HFA/Asperger's disorder

Challenges faced by adolescents with HFA/Asperger's disorder in mainstream high schools

Effective planning for transition from primary to high school

Problems presented by the curriculum, teaching styles and school procedures

Difficulties forming friendships and coping with a variety of relationships including peers, teachers and parents

Anxiety and its management

Sexuality issues

Strategies for modifying learning and social environments

Cost: $198 incl GST
Morning tea and lunch provided

Introduction to ASD and Practical Social Support Strategies
Learn about and receive:

Overview of autism spectrum disorder with focus on high functioning autism (HF)/Asperger's disorder

Implications of social impairment for mainstream school classrooms and playgrounds

Social support strategies including

  • social skills
  • playground programs
  • diagnosis disclosure
  • peer education

Cost: $198 incl GST
